"It's a very important job," Dazai said, straightening the knot of Atsushi's tie. He was far too cheerful about this entire thing, and Atsushi had that vague feeling that he was walking into some sort of orchestrated trap, but Kunikida had been the one who handed the job to him, not Dazai, so maybe he was worried for nothing.

Until he was standing outside of the restaurant and realized no, he had definitely been set up.

Akutagawa stared at him, eyes narrowed. "What," he said, the words punctuated with a low snarl, "are you doing here, were-tiger?"

"My job," he said, arms folded. "I was supposed to escort a client to dinner and-" he could feel all the blood rush to his face, he was going to kill Dazai, "I think I've been set up."

His face flushed darker when Akutagawa's eyes actually flicked up and down, taking in the tailored suit Dazai had gleefully procured for him. "I presume, then, you are the target that Chuuya-kun instructed me to meet." Akutagawa's frown didn't seem as pronounced as Atsushi thought it should be. "Disgusting. I am not surprised you fell for such blatant trickery."

"And yet here you are," Atsushi said. Akutagawa rankled, glaring right back at him, but Atsushi was tired and hungry and he had an expense account for this particular job and was feeling rather vengeful. "I'm going to go eat on the Agency's dime," he said. "If you want to go back and tell your boss you failed to keep eyes on your target that's up to you, but I've got an open tab tonight."

Akutagawa pressed his lips into a flat line, but didn't scowl. "It is my mission," he said, and Atsushi inclined his head.

"Whatever," he agreed. "I won't tell if you don't."
