Summary:

Masayoshi was standing with Ishihara in the lobby of the Cesar Pro. building when Gotou found him. The day was pretty much over - he wasn’t officially back to work yet with the entire Sawada thing still in the news cycle, but he had stopped in at Ishihara’s request to fill out paperwork.

“Gotou-san?” Masayoshi said, surprised, as Gotou stormed up to them, his face dark. He hadn’t really seen much of Gotou in the last few days, given everything that had occurred recently - he was also trying to give Gotou some space because, well… because.

“Why didn’t you TELL me,” Gotou seethed. “Your birthday was yesterday and I saw it in the fucking NEWSPAPER, Masayoshi!”

Masayoshi blinked at him - looked at Ishihara, who was watching them both with the most interested expression - and then looked back to Gotou and blushed. He hadn’t entirely forgotten - there was usually a few sacks full of mail for him every time he stopped in, and Ishihara had bought him a small trinket - but there were more important things going on.

“It didn’t seem important,” he said, and shrugged.

Gotou looked at Ishihara. “Is he done for the day?”

“He’s all yours,” she said, an amused smile escaping her.

Masayoshi yelped as Gotou grabbed him by the wrist. “You’re coming with me,” he said, and dragged him toward the door. Masayoshi almost tried to wrest his arm free but realized Gotou still had bandages covering his own wrists, so he let himself be dragged.

“Gotou-san, you don’t have to do anything,” he said plaintively. “Please let me go.”

He stopped - they were outside by now, several people were looking at them, usually Gotou was very conscious of being stared at - but he didn’t release Masayoshi’s wrist. “I know I don’t have to do anything,” Gotou said, staring straight ahead. “But … you’re my friend, ‘Yoshi.”

Masayoshi blushed a little, and Gotou looked back at him furiously. “Don’t you dare say something stupid,” he warned. He released Masayoshi’s wrist, but Masayoshi caught his hand and held it.

He raised his eyebrows and looked at Gotou pleadingly. “Please?”

Gotou looked away and blushed but didn’t drop Masayoshi’s hand. “Come on,” he said gruffly. “I’m taking you to dinner.”
