Title: now I see
Fandom: Samurai Flamenco
Characters/Pairing: Gotou/Masayoshi
Rating: T
Length: 413
Summary:
Masayoshi looked deadly serious, sitting on the opposite side of the low table. The makeup artists had been excused already - it was just minutes to camera and Ishihara had ducked in to confirm a few things (and mainly to make sure that Masayoshi stayed on task, he was a lot better at it now but he still had his moments). “Masayoshi-kun? Are you all right?”
He looked up at her - he had been staring at a spot on the table like he was trying to set it alight with his eyes - and furrowed his brow. “I’m in love with Gotou-san,” he said.
Ishihara quickly rewound the last hour or so in her head, looking for the question that this statement was in answer to - and didn’t find anything. One didn’t get far in her line of work by striking out on curve balls, however. “Gotou-san, your friend?”
Masayoshi nodded and looked the slightest bit miserable. Ishihara glanced back out the hallway - they maybe had five minutes, at most. She shut the door behind her and dropped to her knees on the cushion opposite Masayoshi. “Does he know you feel this way?”
He nodded his head and looked up at her. “I told him,” he said. “He hasn’t said anything back, though.” The words trailed behind the end of his sentence unsaid. ‘What if he doesn’t…?’
“Masayoshi-kun,” Ishihara said. “He hasn’t rejected you, has he?” Masayoshi shook his head. She sat back on her heels and sighed. “Do you remember what I told you about love?”
He nodded, his eyes bright.
“I think you just need to give him some time,” she said gently. “I’m sure he loves you in his own way - if he didn’t, he would have rejected you outright.”
Masayoshi bit his lip and looked down at the table again. “Do you really think so?”
“I’m certain of it,” she said. She got to her feet, and he looked at her. “We can talk about this more later, okay? You’ve got to get out there.”
He smiled for her, and it looked genuine. “Thank you, Ishihara-san.”
