Summary: "You've got to take me off this assignment."
Roy rubbed his gloved hand over his face and wished for a week, a day, an HOUR that he could ignore the world and retreat somewhere where the most pressing thing to think about is whether or not he had remembered to change his socks. Instead he had this, Havoc yelling in his ear about being late, Riza’s notably absent voice but larger-than-life glare, and …
… and Fullmetal, standing before his desk, a little off to the side, arms crossed over his chest and chin tucked down, the very picture of a storm cloud forming around him. Roy did not have time to deal with this, he did not want to deal with it - he wanted peace and quiet and to figure out a way to unfuck everything he had fucked up in the last week and a half.
"Fullmetal," Roy addressed him without looking at the boy, a report still clasped in his hand that he needed to have off his desk and filed two hours ago. "This really isn’t the time, and I admire your fortitude, however-"
Fullmetal’s stormy countenance did not alter one bit. “You’ve got to take me off this assignment.”
Assignment? He wasn’t currently on a mission. Roy dropped the report he was holding and went to flip through Fullmetal’s current missions before his brain caught up with him. It was off-the-books mostly, keeping an eye on the State Alchemist that had been temporarily remanded into his command. Edward (and by proxy Alphonse) were the only soldiers he could spare at the moment to keep a close eye on her.
"I’m afraid I can’t do that," Roy said smoothly, signing his name across the bottom of a document smoothly. "You’re the only one who can handle this right now - what, does a girl have you running scared already?"
"It’s not that, it’s-" Fullmetal looked around, the office was busy but thankfully no one was paying them any amount of attention. "Look, you should just assign someone else, okay? You’re good at that, delegate it or somethin’."
