Summary: Gotou had fallen asleep sitting upright, arms crossed and head dipping forward slightly.

Gotou had fallen asleep sitting upright, arms crossed and head dipping forward slightly. He’d told Masayoshi that he was fine, they could watch the movie but in a quiet moment when Masayoshi glanced over at him he saw that Gotou had dozed off. He had paused the movie and Gotou didn’t wake – he didn’t stir when Masayoshi slid over beside him, back against the bed’s frame, nor when Masayoshi tentatively clutched at the sleeve of his sweatshirt.

Gotou’s sleeping face – his vulnerability, the fact that he was so comfortable with Masayoshi now that he would drop off without a second thought – Masayoshi’s fingers curled in the soft material of Gotou’s sweatshirt, and he leaned forward on his knees, his other hand brushing back through Gotou’s hair as he softly touched their foreheads together.

Masayoshi smiled as Gotou sighed softly in his sleep, but his eyelids didn’t flutter. Then he sat back on his heels, brushed his hand back through his hair, and glanced at the television. The movie was still paused on a quiet scene, the hero staring thoughtfully off into the distance. This was something that Masayoshi hadn’t been prepared for by his toku shows, by all his years of training – romance, if it existed, was a subplot, shoved aside in favor of greater storylines, boxed away by the need to defeat evil and save the day.

He’d fought, and he’d saved the day, and now here he was without a storyline or sequel in sight - but he had Gotou. And Gotou had him, for better or worse. Masayoshi chewed on his lip a moment, glanced back at the television a second time and almost jumped when Gotou’s hand slid down to rest on his thigh.

“You stopped the movie,” Gotou murmured, his voice thick with sleep.

“Yeah,” Masayoshi said softly. “You fell asleep.”

“Mm, sorry.” Gotou yawned, stifling it mid-through with his hand. “You can keep watching it, I’ll try to stay ‘wake…”

“No,” Masayoshi said. He covered Gotou’s hand with his own, and lifted it off of his thigh. “It’s all right. We’ll watch it later.”

“'kay,” Gotou murmured, eyes drifting already. Masayoshi smiled and brought Gotou’s hand up to his face, kissing it gently. He’d made his choice without even realizing it, speaking to a being beyond his comprehension – it was so clear to him now. Maybe he didn’t have another bad guy to fight, or another evil to pit himself against, so what. This wasn’t just his story any longer.

“Don’t go to sleep on the floor, Gotou-san,” Masayoshi murmured, brushing his thumb over Gotou’s face and kissing him gently. “Let’s go to bed.”
