Title: heart of
Fandom: Samurai Flamenco
Characters/Pairing: Gotou/Masayoshi
Rating: T
Length: 344
Summary: His greatest, unspoken fear was that it wasn't real.
Sometimes, when he couldn’t sleep, Masayoshi would stare at the ceiling and try to deconstruct his entire relationship. His greatest, unspoken fear was that it wasn’t real, none of it was - everything else thus far had been the result of his wishes, why not this too? He had been wishing for a friend when Gotou found him in that alleyway - now it felt so long ago, but it really wasn’t - and just like that he’d dragged Gotou into things.
He had wanted someone to trust, and there he was.
Masayoshi sighed sleepily and rubbed his hand over his eye. He couldn’t stand the thought that this might not be real, that this was built on the fact that Masayoshi wanted it enough that it overwrote everything else. A quiet terror that nestled in his brain was what if Gotou’s girlfriend’s disappearance was because of his unconscious jealousy that Gotou was in love with someone else?
What if the Will of the Universe was wrong, though?
He - she - IT, whatever it was, had told him that there would be no more battles to fight, no more enemies to face. It had been wrong; Sawada had shown up. He wasn’t an enemy to face as Samurai Flamenco, but as Hazama Masayoshi - all the same it was a battle he had to fight.
(For Gotou.)
He would turn these things over in his head until he went mad. Masayoshi groaned softly, and covered his face with both hands.
The noise made Gotou stir, his head right next to Masayoshi’s, and shifted, wrapping his arms around Masayoshi’s chest and pulling him close again. Masayoshi sighed affectionately and, after a moment to be certain Gotou hadn’t woken up, settled his arms around Gotou as well.
The only thing he knew for certain now was that the Will of the Universe had sincerely fucked with his head.
