Summary: Yuletide morning wake-up call.
Edward always had had the thought to transmute a lock on the door whenever he and Rian stayed the night at Alphonse and Winry’s, but it was always a passing thought, and only seemed to occur in those moments when the children burst into the room shrieking at ass-early o’clock. Which, while that didn’t happen often and they were yet to catch the pair of them doing anything less innocent then being passed out, it was only a matter of time before someone got adventurous and they got caught doing something they really shouldn’t in the guest room.
Rian was jolted awake by Sarah landing on him after she leaped into the bed. He had been buried half under Edward’s left side, seeking warmth in the cold house, and he banged his head into Edward’s shoulder when the force of Sarah’s mass jolted him up. There was much confused flailing from the both of them, while Sarah shrieked, “HAPPY YULE SINTERKLAAS WAS HERE,” and dashed off the bed, in search of other victims.
Edward rolled onto his back, groaning, and Rian got up on his knees before he realized how cold it actually was outside the covers and buried himself again, snuggled up against Edward. “What time is it?” he asked with a yawn, and Edward squinted at the ceiling, still dark and murky.
"You know, if we have kids they are NOT gonna be allowed out of bed before it’s daylight," Edward said with certainty.
"If?" Rian repeated, clearly amused. "How exactly are you going to accomplish that feat of biological engineering, because in case that it has escaped your notice, I am not exactly equipped to have children."
Edward rolled over, already-half asleep. “We c’n adopt,” he said with a yawn, and settled his face against Rian’s shoulder. “Goin’ back t’sleep.”
Just as he said that, the overhead light went on and this time is was Alphonse, in a dressing gown and a big smiling. “Happy Yule,” Alphonse said cheerfully, as Edward growled something against Rian’s shoulder that wasn’t repeatable in mixed company.
"Go AWAY," he seethed. "Go back to bed, it’s fuckin too early o’clock."
"That’s what I told him," Winry muttered from behind Alphonse’s shoulder, looking exactly how Edward felt before his coffee every day. "He’s an Elric, doesn’t listen, sound familiar?" Winry cuffed Alphonse. "I’m making coffee, you do not want this big five-year-old to jump in bed with you like Sarah again, because he WILL."
Edward groaned, and Rian sat up and sighed. “Happy Yule,” he said, and Edward rolled his face into the pillow.
"Nope," he said. "Sleep."
Rian got out of the bed, got his dressing gown and got out the door before Alphonse had a chance to descend on them both. He heard Edward’s curses from down the hall as he headed down the stairs. Holidays at the Elric’s were always so LIVELY, but in a different way than Rian’s cluttered, full-of-kids home growing up.
Different, but just as joyful. He was glad to be here, especially to see Alphonse fully body-wrestle a sleep-deprived Edward down the stairs and into the kitchen so he could be fed some coffee and be an actual human being again. It was the sort of experience that couldn’t be wrapped and stuffed under a tree, and just getting to be here was perhaps the best gift of them all.
