Summary: He hated their missions.
#1: Comfort
He hated their missions.
Edward curled in a ball on his side, breathing raggedly. He had wrenched his wounds open again and didn't care. None of the wounds were particularly deep - they were mostly a motley collection of superficial scrapes and bruising. The most telling wounds were the ones that hadn't left any blood behind - the three cracked ribs that made every breath agony.
He would not clutch the pillow to him like some girl wracked with worry. Edward buried his face in the other side of the bed and inhaled his partner's scent and tried not to think about everything that could go wrong tonight because he wasn't out in the field. He didn't think about the easy missteps that could lead to a ten-story plummet, or the careless way that gunfire could catch someone off guard.
Edward wrapped his flesh hand in the sheet, all the while kicking the comforter off of the bed in frustration.
He waited.
#
Kenshin cracked open the door to the bedroom softly. He had showered downstairs since Kennichi had thundered up the stairs and claimed the bathtub for his very own. There had been enough fighting in the night that it wasn't worth the effort to argue and besides, all Kenshin wanted at this point was a shower and to fall into bed anyway.
Sleeping fitfully in a puddle of moonlight lay Edward, keeping Kenshin's side of the bed warm. Kenshin smiled fondly, latching their door securely behind him and dropping his damp towel over the back of a desk chair. He climbed in to bed beside Edward, who didn't stir, and curled around the slumbering body.
It was good to be home.
