Summary: Gotou was humming softly as he brushed Keiko’s hair. It wasn’t an unfamiliar melody, Masayoshi thought as he watched, drowsy, from the couch – but he wasn’t quite placing it until Keiko shuffled a little bit, impatient. “No, papa,” she said. “Pretty Magician Aya-chan’s theme is different.”

Gotou was humming softly as he brushed Keiko’s hair. It wasn’t an unfamiliar melody, Masayoshi thought as he watched, drowsy, from the couch – but he wasn’t quite placing it until Keiko shuffled a little bit, impatient. “No, papa,” she said. “Pretty Magician Aya-chan’s theme is different.

“Oh, we’re a Pretty Magician now,” Gotou murmured, not stopping as he continued to brush her hair. “What happened to Nurse-Witch Keiko-chan?”

“Pretty Magicians have bows, and wands,” Keiko said, rocking on her feet a little, tugging on the end of the fluffy skirt she was wearing. Masayoshi smiled as he shifted in place. Masanori made a little noise against his chest, one hand curled tight in Masayoshi’s shirt, and he remembered that he had laid down with Masanori to convince him to take a nap. The noise was enough to make Gotou glance their direction, and he smiled fondly at Masayoshi,

“Does this Pretty Magician have one tail, or two?” Gotou asked, and Keiko scrunched up her face in thought.

“Aya-chan has one,” she said with conviction, and Gotou nodded mostly to himself, gathering her hair to pull it back into a single tail.

Masayoshi watched them together and smiled, as Keiko bounced impatiently on her feet, waiting to be out from under Papa’s careful hands. “There,” Gotou said, and flicked the end of her hair. “Pretty Magician Keiko-chan is done.”

“Pretty Magician Flamenco-chan,” Keiko corrected him imperiously. She took the brush from Gotou and held it aloft. “Henshin!” she yelled, spun around once and ran off toward her room. Gotou sighed and smiled, shook his head and got up out of the chair.

“Good nap?” he asked as Masayoshi lifted his head and blinked owlishly.

“How long was I out?”

“Not more than an hour.” Gotou very carefully untangled Masanori from Masayoshi’s shirt, and Masanori yawned and curled in toward Gotou, not opening his eyes once. Masayoshi himself didn’t get up, instead settling his arm under his head and looking up at Gotou with sleepy eyes as he rocked Masanori gently. “What?” Gotou asked, a frown tugging at the corner of his mouth.

“You’re a good dad,” Masayoshi said, holding up his hand. Gotou turned the faintest hint of red, along his cheeks and ears. He took Masayoshi’s hand with his free one and tugged him upright. Once the world was pointed in the right direction, Masayoshi ran a hand through his hair and grinned up at Gotou, who was still blushing. “You’re also cute when you blush.”

“Flattery won’t get you out of making dinner,” Gotou said. “But you’re pretty cute yourself, you know.”

“I know,” Masayoshi said as he hoisted to his feet, smug little grin on his face. Gotou rolled his eyes and Masayoshi put one arm over his shoulder, head leaned in close – and Masanori yawned, a small little noise between them. Gotou glanced down and Masayoshi caught his chin, tilted his face back up, and kissed him.

He wouldn’t trade his family for anything, because they were perfect.
