Summary:

Gotou had arrived home to Masayoshi trying to juggle a wailing infant and a fussy toddler and looking like he was equally near tears himself. Gotou heeled off his shoes in the genkan, didn’t bother to put them up and promptly rescued Masayoshi. “You should have called,” he said, a little too harshly, and that was all it took for Masayoshi, sinking onto bed and pressing one palm into his eyes, clearly trying not to sniffle audibly.

Keiko toddled after Gotou, catching his pants leg with one fist and staring up at him with dark eyes. Gotou sighed but then smiled down at his daughter, whose stormy expression lightened as she smiled back. “Daddy needs a hug,” he said, urging her gently with his knee and she wobbled for a moment, before stumbling backward and, with flailing arms, fumbled herself back toward Masayoshi.

Masanori needed a burp, and promptly spit up all over Gotou’s dress shirt. Once Gotou laid him down in the crib at the base of their bed, he picked up Keiko from where she was trying to climb up onto the mattress and sat down beside Masayoshi, Keiko on his lap.

“Long day?” Gotou said finally, and Masayoshi nodded, silently, rubbing his hand under his nose. “You don’t have to do this alone,” he reminded Masayoshi, and picked up Masayoshi’s left hand, threading their fingers. “We’re a team, remember?”

“I love you so much, Gotou-san,” Masayoshi said softly, and Gotou kissed the knuckles on his left hand, just above the ring.

“I love you too, even when you’re being stubborn,” Gotou said, and as always was amazed at how easily the words came to him. Then, he paused. “Is that egg in your hair?”

“It’s been a long day,” Masayoshi finally said, and managed a faint smile.
