Samurai Flamenco - Diverted Flight [Gotoyoshi]

Title: Diverted Flight
Fandom: Samurai Flamenco
AU: Mecha
Characters/Pairing: Gotou/Masayoshi
Rating: T
Length: 376
Summary: "Masayoshi, listen to me," he said, for the third time.

Gotou leaned into the open hatch, Masayoshi’s busted helmet in one hand, the other braced against the edge of the cockpit. “Yoshi, listen to me,” he said for the third time, and Masayoshi ignored him, focused instead on the viewscreen.

There was still dried blood streaked on his face where the helmet took a direct hit - Gotou was very much not thinking about what might have happened if he hadn’t been wearing it this time. “Masayoshi!”

“I’m fine,” Masayoshi said automatically, his eyes never leaving the scroll of text. He reached forward to flip a switch near the open hatch and Gotou grabbed his outstretched wrist and yanked, catching Masayoshi by surprise. He looked at Gotou, startled - the marks of exhaustion were heavy around his wide blue eyes. “What, what?”

“You are NOT fine,” Gotou growled. “Get out of the cockpit, NOW.”

They glared silently at each other. After a moment Masayoshi wrenched his wrist free, and since Gotou was the one off balance he couldn’t keep his grip on Masayoshi and not fall out of the open hatch. “I’ve got to do this,” he said, eyes on Gotou now. “I’m the only one who’s left, I’m the only one they can count on.”

The words were like daggers - did he really think that Gotou didn’t understand that? “Idiot,” he hissed at Masayoshi. “I KNOW that - but if you go out there now you’re going to get killed and then there won’t be anyone else left to fight.”

Masayoshi stared at him coldly. “What happened to ‘I’ll avenge you?’” He pressed some buttons quickly. “I’d get out of the hatch if I were you, I’m closing it.”

Gotou jumped back quickly - off-balance he flung the helmet at the hatch, but it bounced off harmlessly. “God DAMMIT, MASAYOSHI,” he yelled, but his words were lost amid the rumble of engines igniting.
