Summary: Maybe he could blame it on the booze.

He could blame it on the booze.

He’d lost count somewhere in there after the fourth beer; he hadn’t eaten all day and now there was food and liquor and Masayoshi, sitting opposite him, hair in disarray. He had wondered for a while now what would happen if he gave in to that niggling thought that had been planted in his mind months ago; if it was even worth it to try.

They talked about everything except that, the giant elephant in the room. Masayoshi complained about politicians - he wasn’t one, he had no desire to be one, but no one was even bothering to run against him and he didn’t know exactly how he was going to deal with the position of ‘president of the world.’ Gotou reasoned that he could step down, or that the position was purely ceremonial, because no one could be stupid enough to hand off that much power to Masayoshi.

That led to Masayoshi kicking him under the table, and he laughed.

He thought about kissing Masayoshi again - he thought about kissing Masayoshi often, actually. Masayoshi looked down at the table, and for a moment Gotou was worried that the words had escaped him, but then Masayoshi mentioned something about how he was getting more movie offers now, and maybe he wasn’t going to be around as much for a while.

They left late - Masayoshi under his arm to steady him - and it was so comfortable to rely on him like this, a warm solid presence at his side.

He could blame it all on the booze, slipping out from under Masayoshi’s arm, pulling him down just that fraction, just enough for their lips to meet on a shared breath. Masayoshi’s blue eyes wide and stunned, on his own - and then he kissed back, hungry and desperate.

Gotou could blame a lot of things on the booze, he realized - but this was not one of them.
